The Esca and Florentin projects are adaptive reuse initiatives within the Delmar Maker’s District, focused on transforming existing buildings and exterior spaces to accommodate restaurants. Both projects, located directly across from one another along Delmar Boulevard, aim to support the growing district of artist studios, creative shops, and restaurants with a focus on thoughtful material re-use. DTLS was engaged early in the conceptual phase of both projects, where a fast schedule required sketching multiple high-level design options. These sketches addressed key elements such as dining areas, gardens, flexible outdoor spaces, lighting, and plantings. After reviewing the options, the owner selected a preferred design, which moved forward into a design-build process.
